National Safety Month 2026: The New and the Necessary

National Safety Month occurs throughout June, with 2026 marking the 30th anniversary of the campaign established by the National Safety Council (NSC). The annual observance focuses on reducing preventable injuries in workplaces, on the roads, and at home. This year is broken down into 4 distinct themes:

Week 1 (June 1 – 6)

Moving Safety Forward

Focuses on building proactive safety cultures through forward thinking strategies and continuous improvement.

Week 2 (June 7 – 13)

Staying Safe on the Roads

Emphasizes reducing crashes through practical guidance for drivers, pedestrians, and commercial fleets.

Week 3 (June 14 – 20)

Promoting Holistic Worker Health

Supports total worker wellbeing, with an emphasis on mental, physical, and emotional health.

Week 4 (June 21 – 30)

Preventing Slips, Trips, and Falls

Addresses common hazards at home and in the workplace through targeted prevention education.

Bjerk Safety is Built Dffrnt

Safety is a Core Company Value

Bjerk implements “Building Safely” as one of our foundational company values and emphasizes that protecting employees, subcontractors, clients, and project sites as our highest priority. Safety is presented as part of how projects are delivered, not as a compliance requirement.

Site-Specific Safety Plans on Every Project

Rather than relying solely on a corporate safety manual, Bjerk requires project-specific safety plans for every jobsite. This approach is especially important on occupied facilities, healthcare projects, and municipal work where hazards vary significantly by location.

Dedicated Risk Management Oversight

Bjerk conducts both scheduled and surprise jobsite inspections through its Risk Management Team. This creates accountability in the field and helps identify unsafe conditions before they become incidents.

Continuous Training and Education

Our team maintains ongoing safety training programs and requires safety education as part of employee onboarding and recurring training. Published safety policies include detailed OSHA-aligned procedures and documented training requirements.

Compliance Beyond Minimum Requirements

All operations conform to OSHA requirements as well as jurisdiction-specific regulations on every project. The Safety Program includes formal procedures covering hazard recognition, incident prevention, exposure control, employee training, and jobsite risks.

Proactive Planning Culture

A recurring theme throughout Bjerk’s leadership messaging is anticipating problems before they happen. The emphasis on sequencing, logistics planning, operational awareness, and proactive project management directly supports safer jobsites because many incidents stem from poor planning rather than unsafe acts alone.

Every project is supported by a comprehensive Safety and Health Program, routine Risk Management Team inspections, OSHA-compliant procedures, and secure communication systems that help identify and mitigate risk before incidents occur.

No matter the project size, safety isn’t treated as a checklist, it’s integrated into every phase of project delivery.
